I work with people who love their dogs, want to do right by them, and are willing to look beyond quick fixes. You do not need to have endless patience or get everything right between sessions. You just need to be open to learning, asking questions, and making changes that help life feel better for both you and your dog.

What are the benefits of your private 1-on-1 training sessions?

Private sessions are where the magic happens. I focus entirely on you and your dog. It’s like having a personal trainer and behaviour translator rolled into one. You’ll get clear guidance, step-by-step coaching, and the space to ask questions, troubleshoot, and go at your own pace. This format makes it easier to work on real-life problems in real-life settings–and see real progress.

Where do we meet for training?

You’ve got options! If you're within a 25-minute drive of Alliston, ON, I’ll come to you for in-home sessions. If you’re outside that area, or just love the flexibility of online learning, we can train together virtually via Zoom. Either way, you’ll get expert guidance, personalized support, and real-world results.

Is positive reinforcement just giving my dog treats forever?

Food jump-starts learning because it taps into primal “yay!” responses. Over time, we layer in real-life rewards (sniff breaks, toy tosses, access to favourite spots) so treats fade but the behaviour sticks. You’ll always reinforce good choices, just not always from a treat pouch.

What’s the difference between behaviour modification and obedience training?

Great question! Obedience training is about teaching specific skills, like sit, stay, or recall. Behaviour modification goes deeper: it helps dogs who are anxious, reactive, fearful, or struggling emotionally. These behaviours don’t change with commands alone. We look at the why behind them and build new habits through positive, evidence-based strategies.

What if I’ve tried training before and it didn’t work?

That’s more common than you’d think. Sometimes past training didn’t stick because it wasn’t the right fit for your dog’s learning style, or maybe life just got busy. No shame, life happens. We’ll revisit the basics if needed, figure out what actually works for your dog, and build a plan you feel good about following through on.

My dog listens sometimes, but not when it really counts. Can you help?

Totally. Many dogs respond well to cues in calm environments, but when excitement or distractions show up, those skills fall apart. That’s totally normal. I’ll help you build real-life reliability by practicing in ways that make sense to your dog’s brain: gradually adding distractions, distance, and difficulty in a way that sets them up to succeed.

Do you offer group classes?

Right now, I focus exclusively on private 1-on-1 coaching so I can give every dog (and human!) the attention they deserve. This approach allows us to move at your dog’s pace, tailor everything to your goals, and create a low-stress learning environment. That said, I am always evolving, and small group options may pop up in the future!

While no ethical trainer can guarantee specific outcomes (dogs aren’t robots, after all), I can promise compassionate, practical support every step of the way and am committed to providing you with the skills and knowledge needed to reach your goals. The more consistently you practice and follow your dog’s plan, the more progress you’ll see.
